Combi boilers
Combi boiler installation is a highly efficient option for most homes. It provides hot water on demand without the need for a separate cylinder, reducing energy use by heating water directly from the mains when needed. Generally, a Combi boiler installation is more cost-effective to run and maintain.

SYSTEM boilers
System boilers are perfect for homes with multiple bathrooms, as they can supply high pressure hot water to several taps simultaneously. Hot water is stored in an unvented cylinder, ready for use when needed. Unlike regular boilers, a cold water storage tank in the loft is not required, saving you space.

Regular boilers
Regular boilers use a hot water cylinder and a cold water storage tank, typically located in the loft. Regular systems are a straightforward choice when replacing an old boiler with the existing infrastructure. Hot water can be used in multiple rooms simultaneosly due to the use of storage tanks.

Frequently Asked Questions
about boiler installations
You're not alone. Here's what customers often ask us:
A professional boiler installation in North Somerset starts with a full site survey to determine the right boiler type, size and location. Our Gas Safe engineers will:
- Assess your existing heating system, pipework and controls
- Suggest the most efficient boiler suited to your home usage
- Provide a full written quote before any work begins
On installation day, we will remove your old boiler, fit the new boiler correctly and safely, test all functions, complete all paperwork and certify the work.
You’ll receive:
- Gas Safety Certificate (CP12)
- Benchmark commissioning paperwork
- Manufacturer warranty details
- Guidance on using your new system
This ensures your installation is safe, compliant and covered — giving you peace of mind.
Choosing the right boiler depends on your home layout and hot‑water demand:
Combi Boilers – Ideal for most modern homes with 1–2 bathrooms.
- No hot‑water cylinder or cold water tank
- Instant hot water
- Space saving and efficient
System Boilers – Better for homes with higher hot‑water requirements.
- Uses a cylinder for hot water
- Stable performance with multiple taps running
Conventional / Regular Boilers – Suitable if you already have tanks and a cylinder, especially in older properties.
We typically recommend trusted, long‑lasting brands like Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal & Baxi — each offering reliable performance and solid warranties.
During your survey, we’ll explain why a specific boiler type and size is the best match for your house, family size and heating patterns.
Most boiler installations are completed within 1 day for like‑for‑like replacements. More complex installs — such as moving the boiler location, upgrading radiators, or adding new pipework — may take 1–2 days.
How to prepare:
- Clear the boiler location and surrounding area
- Make sure there’s safe, easy access
- Pets and children kept away from the work area
Our team works efficiently and cleans up after themselves — minimising disruption to your home.
Once your boiler is fitted, we will:
- Test all heating and hot water functions under different scenarios
- Adjust controls and thermostats for optimal performance
- Show you how to operate your new system safely
- Complete and hand over all compliance documentation
- Register your boiler warranty (where applicable)
We also recommend annual servicing to keep your boiler efficient, prevent breakdowns and protect your warranty.
- Powerflush to remove sludge and debris
- Magnetic system filters
- Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs)
- Smart control upgrades
- New radiator replacements
Boiler installation costs vary depending on several key factors. Understanding these can help you plan your budget and get the best value for your home in North Somerset.
1. Boiler type and brand
- Combi, system, or conventional boilers all have different price points.
- Trusted brands like Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal, and Baxi often cost more upfront but offer longer warranties and reliable performance.
2. Boiler size and capacity
- The number of bathrooms, hot water usage, and house size affect the boiler size you need. Larger or more powerful boilers typically cost more.
3. Existing heating system condition
- Homes with older or corroded pipework, radiators, or tanks may require additional work such as pipe replacement, system flushes, or new radiators.
- Extra preparation work increases both labour and material costs.
4. Installation complexity
- Like-for-like replacements are quicker and cheaper.
- Moving the boiler location, adding controls, or upgrading heating zones requires more time and expertise, increasing the overall cost.
5. Additional features and efficiency upgrades
- Magnetic filters, smart thermostats, and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) can improve efficiency and lifespan but add to the installation cost.
6. Labour and local factors
- Prices vary slightly by location and installer. In North Somerset, choosing a local Gas Safe registered engineer ensures safe, compliant work and access to local support if issues arise.
By considering these factors, you’ll get a clear understanding of what your boiler installation might cost and why investing in a professional, properly fitted system saves money in the long term.
A boiler installation usually refers to fitting a completely new system in a property that may not have had one before, or installing a boiler in a newly built home. This can involve installing new pipework, radiators, and controls from scratch, making it more complex and sometimes more costly.
A boiler replacement involves swapping an existing boiler for a new one, often in the same location. Like-for-like replacements are generally faster, simpler, and less expensive because the pipework and system infrastructure are already in place.
In both cases, a Gas Safe registered engineer will:
- Assess your heating needs and recommend the right boiler type and size
- Remove the old boiler (for replacements) safely
- Install and test the new boiler
- Provide all required certifications, warranties, and user guidance
Even with replacements, additional work may be needed if your system is old, such as a system flush, magnetic filter, or new controls. This ensures your new boiler operates efficiently and lasts longer.
